Account books, 1649-1685.

This collection consists of two commonplace books, 1655-1685 and 1649-1676, chiefly concerning a general store located in Salem, of which Jonathan Corwin was keeper. Taken as a whole, these volumes generally record goods purchased, sold and shipped. They also record business payments and expenses. Copies of receipts are also contained in each. In the volume for 1655 to 1685, the weight of the shipment is also recorded, in addition to: business notes, a genealogical record of Corwin's immediate family, and an account of a trip to England. The other volume, 1649-1676, also contains some remedies for ailments, in addition to earlier entries probably recorded by Jonathan Corwin's father, George.
